On the 18th of October 2009 we hosted our first ‘Sommerfest’ (German for ‘Summer Festival’) at Cascade, aiming to not only reveal what our Guesthouse has to offer, but also to invite old and young alike to celebrate the day with us.
Visitors from near and far took their taste buds on an adventure with German and South African delicacies, made by Volker. Our guests were welcomed by Barry Geyer, the event coordinator of our private function (http://www.eventanddesign.co.za/).
Drinks were served by our own, friendly, smiling staff at the outside bar. With happy, often slightly flustered faces, a joint trip to Cascade’s waterfall, with its cool wispy sprays carried by a slight breeze, was most welcomed when the warmth of the day reached its peak around noon. Laughs were shared in the courtyard, accompanied by a speech from Nils Heckscher, family friend and Manager of Winchester Mansions (http://www.winchester.co.za/). I gave voice to my thank-you’s thereafter.
Live music delighted the ears and maintained the already beautifully calm and relaxing atmosphere that reigned amongst the visitors. Zamar (http://www.zamarmusic.co.za/) , a group of five talented musicians, managed to blend folk music with passion and great stage presence; capturing the audience with their energy and liveliness. Isabelle Mohr and Sean Mitchell entertained the guests by performing songs on the clarinet and classical guitar respectively.
With a collection of jewellery from Schnack jewellery (http://www.sacoyo.com/html/jewellery.html) on display for the adults, there was not a shortage of entertainment for the children. A tent for painting, a built-up field designated for soccer games, as well as a trampoline and colourful jumping castle were popular venues amongst the kiddies. Even the ‘grown-ups’ had a chance to express their thoughts of the day on a canvas placed appropriately near the music and bar. It truly was a day of smiles, laughter and fun in the sun.
